DIGITAL GEOLOGY

In this manifestation of site specific art, there large boulders split open to reveal enormous geodes with an interesting digital mutation. Instead of large crystals, the boulders' interiors are filled with circular illuminated LED pockets, displaying brightly colored organic content.

On the island of Jeju, volcanic formations are a part of the landscape. Pumice and pocketed grey stone are pocked with holes created when gases were trapped within the rapidly cooling stone. These artworks are a play on the geological processes that create cavities within seemingly solid objects. In this case, large boulders have fractured to reveal crystalized formation within, brimming with digital technology and light. Krugman Studio created three large Digital Geodes, each with its own content and character. These customized LED screens are designed to be all-weather and are made with welded stainless steel tubing, custom injection molded diffusers, and outdoor LED components, power supplies and controllers, all nestled within fabricated boulders.

Permanent, completed July 2018.

Dimensions: 3 sculptures, 9' x 6' x 5', 9' x 6' x 4' and 4' x 16' x 3'
