RADIOSOME

cave center main

Radiosome slowly twirls in the darkness, accentuating its spiralling form. Situated in a large volcanic depression with a pool of water beneath, it is unclear if the sculpture has grown there or perhaps emerged from somewhere deeper down. The surrounding landscape is home to a variety of pre-historic tropical plants that grow within the shady environment, getting bursts of sun throughout the day through the skylights in the canopy structure covering the space.

The sculpture's ten meter spine supports rib-like protrusions tipped with diffused points of ultra-violet light. At the border of the visible spectrum, the two rows of lights call to mind the helical structures that form the DNA of all living things. The sculpture's size and its slow rotation also draw parallels to celestial bodies spinning through space emitting energy at various wavelengths.

Permanent, completed July 2018.
